Week One hundred and seven

Week beginning 17th June 2024.

Enjoying another journey back home after a visit to Edinburgh and dinner with Eddie and the family. We travel this route quite a bit but never get tired of the changing landscape as we move from the central belt and into Argyll.

Cate has invited us to dinner but instead of going round to their caravan she has brought the lasagne to us and are enjoying a fabulous evening of chat and wine.

Molly is re-making the frames that will encase the drawers that we retrieved from our sideboard in our flat in Portobello. Pete is continuing to do a variety of wee finishing jobs around the house.

We are now visiting our container to collect a bed frame and sofa. We have friends coming to stay next week and want to provide a bit of comfort.

Today we are off to a family funeral down in Dreghorn. This is where Molly’s father lived and Ronnie was his youngest sibling. It’s a sad day as he is the last of that generation.

We are back in plenty of time for the Scotland v Switzerland Euros match. Having both Swiss and Scots heritage Pete is happy enough with one each as the final score.

Today we are outside working out how to do the trim around the soffit on the shed. This has been complicated by the foundation slab’s Isoquick insulation being the wrong size.

Now we are adding the few planks of larch cladding we have left to the east side of the shed. With that done we measure and order the cladding we need to complete this job.

With the bench for the boot room made Pete is painting it whist Molly burns the frames she made for the drawers, the last of the window sills and bits of larch that was cut for the coat hooks in the boot room.

Nailing the palett planks to the top of the boot room bench we have made.

Doing all these wee jobs takes quite a bit of time and is quite different from doing the heavy building jobs that provided lots of satisfaction as we saw noticable progress, this is all far less satisfying but it still needs done.

Having said that the grass seeds Molly spread last week are already sprouting and that is a lovely thing to see.

It’s Sunday and our friends and walking companions, Nicky and Graham, will arrive on the Edinburgh bus at 8pm ish so we are going to finish most of the last details before they get here, hang some pictures and make sure and give the place a good clean and tidy.

We are really looking forward to spending some time with them and enjoying a few walks and visits to some of the amazing places around here.

Argyll is so beautiful and moody when the sun doesn’t shine.

After years of living in a beautiful Victorian flat in Edinburgh, Molly and I have decided to sell up and build our new house ourselves in Argyll, Scotland. We have called it Gar Bothan which is Gaelic for warm bothy or cottage or hovel!!!!
