What a night of relentless rain it has been. Usually we like the sound of rain on the caravan roof, usually it has soothing qualities, but last night it became quite oppressive.
It’s still raining this morning and we don’t yet have the extra insulation we have ordered. We are going to call the insulation suppliers to find out when we can expect to get the delivery and plan accordingly.
The delivery will be on Monday or Tuesday so we are going to load the car with remnants of insulation and take it to the dump. It is so nice to deal with the off-cuts and not let them pile up too much. Not sure exactly how many trips we have made to the dump but we reckon about 12 or so, not too bad really.
We’re back from the dump and it’s still raining. We are going to catch up on some of the wee jobs inside the house. Firstly, we are taping the breather membrane that we installed between the wall head and the sub-floor which we can access from the mezzanines.
With that done, Molly is removing the protective layer on the sub-floor and Pete is foaming some of the larger gaps between the OSB sheets. Molly has discovered some water damage on the floor but it is not too bad and will dry out now.
It’s Friday morning and we are going to carry on with the wee tasks. Pete is going to try and seal the gaps between the double trusses so that they won’t have to be taped for airtightness. We are going to have the trusses partially exposed all the way to the top of the roof to exploit the full height of the internal space.
If we could rewind time we would have taped the double trusses from the outside, making them airtight but on the inside without any visible seal.
We have visitors tonight, Zadjil and Carolyn are coming for the weekend. They haven’t visited since October so they’ll see big changes, not least the sleeping space in the mega-shed.
We are going to do a big tidy before they arrive.
We are having our Greek themed night with Zadjil and Carolyn. We have the wine Michelle and Dimitri brought, some Meze with Feta and sun-dried tomatoes, Greek Olives and Baclava. What a treat!
Guess what, it’s raining again so we can’t really go for a walk or spend time outdoors.
We have discussed our options and Zadjil has offered to help make the safety barrier for the mega-shed attic, while Carolyn heads off to Oban for some important supplies.
Pete had precut the angles for the verticle bars some time ago but we still need to come up with an approach so we put our heads together.
Pete has gone off to put up a bit of fencing by the road so Molly and Zadjil are getting on with it.
With the fencing done and Carolyn back from Oban we stop for lunch. Molly has made her version of ramen, a spicy noodle soup.
Fortified, we are all chipping in to get on with the job and by dinner time we have finished most of the job. We have fitted a central post to help getting on and off the ladder and on the corners fixed bars ( not sure what to call them, not balustrade or spindles. Any ideas?) We still have to fit a hinged railing, that can drop down, to the left of the post.
Kedjeree and wine for dinner.
We can certainly vouch for that rain, having heard it in the background of our WhatsApp chat with you both! Great to see you despite signal, and the interior is really taking shape 👏. Looks like you had a lovely time with your guests too. Fingers crossed for drier, sunnier weather this week.
Thank you Nicky. It was great to see you on a zoom chat but a shame about the poor signal. We do have to plan a visit…..
Today has been mostly dry and the rest of the insulation arrived. Spent a good bit of time with Andrew going over the jobs needing done before the tin for the roof arrives.
Sending our love to you both 💕
